When thinking about what makes Liberty Lutheran a truly special organization, the value of kindness and how it is manifest here immediately comes to mind.

We are reminded of the quote, “One of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon another is kindness. If someone is in need, lend them a helping hand. Do not wait for a thank you. True kindness lies within the act of giving without the expectation of something in return.”

Liberty Extends a Helping Hand Through Benevolent Care Funds

One way that Liberty extends a helping hand is by nurturing and growing benevolent care funds across our communities.

Those who live in our communities are people of hope, love, imagination, and accomplishments. The relationships they’ve formed and the bonds they’ve made are invaluable.

Liberty knows that someone’s financial circumstances can change due to no fault of their own. A recession, a downturn in the markets, extensive medical bills, or even living longer than expected can adversely affect one’s resources.

When someone within our communities experiences financial hardships, it is important that they remain in the company of their friends and loved ones, so that they continue to thrive and live purposeful lives.

The benevolent care funds offer them security, peace of mind and the freedom to remain in the community when their financial resources can no longer support them.

Support for Benevolent Care

The greatest gift of kindness comes from our donors who support benevolent care in our communities. Residents give to help their neighbors in need, and families often designate memorial gifts when their loved one dies. Staff give through an employee giving campaign.

At Paul’s Run, the Friends of Paul’s Run raises money through the proceeds of the general store, while staff and residents join together to hold an annual bazaar to support their Fellowship Fund for benevolent care.

At both The Hearth at Drexel and Paul’s Run, donors give to benevolent care to honor loved ones with winter snowflakes showcased during the holidays. Artman designates winter lights with a similar campaign.

Liberty’s largest fundraising event, the Artman Golf Outing, supports the Artman Benevolent Care Fund. It began 39 years ago after Artman’s beloved friend and supporter, Stuart Alan “Stu” Johnson, passed away suddenly. To honor his many contributions to Artman, members of the Upper Dublin Lutheran Church organized the first outing. This year 108 golfers participated, raising over $ 60,000, net.

Our Deepest Gratitude

While the amount of benevolent funds vary from year to year, Liberty generally provides in excess of $ 1.5 million in benevolent care across our family of services. Over the last 10 years, Liberty has invested over $ 15 million.

We are forever grateful for the donors who contribute to these funds, and to the staff, residents, volunteers and family members who invest their time, talents and treasure to ensure security and peace of mind for all of our residents.

Benevolent care is true kindness and is an inspiring way to keep friends together. Thank you ALL for your commitment to fostering a culture of care and compassion.
