The West Philadelphia Senior Community Center is grateful for all of our volunteers. They willingly give their time, energy and talents to serve older adults, bringing smiles and comfort. Every volunteer is a valuable part of our work.

Highlighted here are just a few of the friendly people dedicated to making the Center the WOW of West Philadelphia.

Mrs. Bertha Martin-Nagbe is President of our Advisory Council. She leads our council to guide direction, programs and services. She’s also willing to roll up her sleeves and pitch in to help wherever she’s needed.

A retired nurse, Ms. Wanda White is here weekly, checking blood pressure, listening to concerns and offering guidance. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience to ensure members take care of their health.

Mr. Sylvester Simmons is viewed by many as their “tech” guy. The Center’s automated system for signing in and registering for lunch, classes and services can seem complicated, especially to an older adult unfamiliar with technology. Mr. Simmons patiently helps anyone who needs it.

You’ll find Ms. Dorothea Cole in the kitchen and dining room, serving breakfast and lunch with a smile and a few encouraging words to brighten your day.

Volunteering is fun and fulfilling. It’s a great way to keep active and to meet new people. If you want to learn more about volunteer opportunities at The Center, call us at 215-386-0379.
