Thank you!

Another Fabulous God’s Work Our Hands Day

Thank you to all of our volunteers and those who donated to this year’s God’s Work Our Hands day of service.

You help survivors of disasters move beyond despair towards hope. Because you care, you affirm their dignity and show them that they do not have to navigate the wilderness of recovery alone.

On September 8th, a group of volunteers from four churches assembled 80 hygiene kits and 55 flood buckets at the Northeast Pennsylvania Synod office of the ELCA. Several groups were very creative.

Linda from Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church got her grandchildren involved. They decorated a bucket with hands around them, then displayed the bucket at church to raise awareness and collect money to buy 50 buckets and clothesline to support the effort. They also sent a great group of volunteers to help out.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glenside also collected and assembled buckets at their church for God’s Work Our Hands. Daniel, an intern at St. Paul’s, made a game of it with Sunday school children, creating a relay race to fill the buckets.

These kits will provide immediate help for those in need following a disaster.  As kits are distributed, Lutheran Disaster Response is able to identify survivors who will need long term support to recover.

We’d like to give a special shout out to Dale Kratzer for securing a Thrivent Action Grant. These grants are a great way to secure funds needed to purchase the items that fill the kits and buckets.

If you or your church helped out with the Lutheran Disaster Response drive to assemble kits and buckets, we would love to hear from you. Email Julia at jfrank@libertylutheran.org.
