Liberty Lutheran is proud to announce it has been honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the Healthiest Employers of Greater Philadelphia. Liberty was recognized at an awards breakfast on June 5, 2014 for creating a culture of health in the workplace, while improving lives and cutting healthcare costs, along with 54 other Philadelphia-area employers of various sizes and industries.

“Liberty places great value on our staff and those that we serve, and we work diligently to enhance their lives through health and wellness,” said Gina Formica, Director of Liberty’s Wellness Works program. “This award helps support that we are on the right track! Our Wellness Works team strives to help all of our employees to live life to the fullest and it is great to have that recognized.”

The awards ceremony was held on the campus of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where Philadelphia Business Journal Publisher, Lyn Kremer, was one of many speakers who applauded this year’s honorees. “Congrats to all of you for focusing on wellness,” she said.

Started in 2007, Liberty Lutheran’s Wellness Works program seeks to engage its 1200 employees with challenges, programs and incentives year-round to help them lead healthier, more active lifestyles. For example, from September 2011 through September 2012, Liberty Lutheran employees participating in a weight loss program collectively dropped 515 pounds. Liberty’s Wellness Works was created by Gina Formica, DPT, Director the Becoming Center, a health and wellness center for older adults and service of Liberty Lutheran, and John Fairchild, Liberty Lutheran’s Employee Wellness Coordinator. Since the implementation of the Wellness Works program across the organization, Liberty has developed a team focused solely on employee wellness, with the additions of Wellness Coaches Kelli McIntyre and Vanessa Johnson to meet the variety of needs for all of the staff.

009Fairchild and McIntyre accepted the award on Liberty Lutheran’s behalf at the June 5 breakfast event.

“This recognition goes to our employees for their proactive efforts each year toward living a healthier lifestyle,” Fairchild said.

McIntyre added, “Liberty has made large strides over the past few years in implementing the employee wellness program, establishing a smoke-free workplace, and now offering the Healthy Incentive Bonus to all employees. It is great to be recognized for our commitment to employee health.”
