Julia Menzo: Faithful People in Resilient Communities
Do strong people make strong communities? Explore what happens when creative people find ways to build networks for the benefit of everyone.
Julia is Coordinator for Lutheran Disaster Response – Eastern Pennsylvania, a ministry of Lutheran Congregational Services. In that capacity she strives to strengthen communities of all kinds so that they are able to weather any storm.

Kathie Afflerbach: Faithfully Building Strong Communities
While catastrophic disasters are not common in our area, smaller regional weather and fire events wreak havoc in our communities on a regular basis. Learn some of the resources and strategies to keep your house of worship resilient, including learning about the Disaster Spiritual Partners program of Lutheran Congregational Services.
Kathie is Director of Donor Services and Theological Education Coordinator at Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. She also serves as a volunteer Disaster Spiritual Partner for Lutheran Congregational Services.

Athanasios (Thanos) Milios: Faithfully Balancing Welcome and Security
How do we welcome the stranger in the time where church violence is a concern? This workshop will focus on church staff and sunday school safety, situational awareness, and overall best practices.
Athanasios is a Training Specialist at Allentown’s Police Academy and at Lehigh Carbon Community College. He is also a retired City of Allentown Detective.

Sylvia Havlish: Faithfully Walking with the Grieving
Grief makes us fragile. Many grieving people feel they are walking this path alone. In this workshop we will discuss the ways in which we can help those in our community to feel supported, encouraged and cared for.
Sylvia is the Coordinator of Bereavement Ministries with Lutheran Congregational Services, as well as a bereavement counselor in private practice for many years. She is the author of “Moments Like This,” a book of hope and light in the midst of grief. A former guidance counselor and business owner, she is dedicated to helping others to walk their own path of grief.

Barbara Debsky: Faithfully Leading in Turbulent Times
Resilience is not perfection, but the ability to move forward in imperfect realities. Discover how to cultivate your God-given strengths and develop healthy practices that will give you the stamina, confidence, and inner peace you need to be a resilient leader.
Barbara is a Regional Representative for Portico Benefit Services of the ELCA. Her position with the ELCA is to encourage and assist those she serves to lead healthy lives and achieve financial security.

Jennifer Ollikainen: Facilitation of Panel Discussion
Jennifer is Executive Director of Lutheran Congregational Services. Her experience as a parish pastor, music therapist, and coordinator for community nutrition programs are only a few of the experiences that inform her ideas around personal and community resiliency.
